Management of the right bank of the Gave de Pau river
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The right bank of the Gave de Pau river opposite the Grotto of Massabielle needs to be secured and redeveloped.
The project is divided into 3 phases :
Type 1: High-priority works aimed at structurally strengthening the bank through major interventions including rock fill and sheet piling
Type 2: Medium-priority works aimed at strengthening the embankments through gravelling, additional soil and re-vegetation
Type 3: Secondary and preventive works for the protection and upgrading of the embankments through planting and weirs.
In addition to technical studies and major interventions, particularly type 1, a large part of the project can be handled within a “youth training programme” with groups of young people. In line with Pope Francis’ Laudato Si encyclical, ecological and environmental education and experience would be shared between experts and young people.
